Bruno Follmer

Bruno Follmer began the PhD program in Kinesiology in September 2018 under the supervision of Dr. E. Paul Zehr. Bruno is from Brazil, where he completed the BSc in Physical Education and the MSc in Biodynamic of Human Performance. Bruno also worked as a Professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in the Physical Education undergraduate program.

 

Most of Bruno’s publications are related to combat sports’ physiological and biomechanical aspects. His main research area during the PhD at UVic is focused in sports-related concussion in combat sports athletes. His research topics comprise head trauma risk according to weight category and gender, level of knowledge held by coaches and athletes, and spinal cord excitability measurements in athletes exposed to repetitive head traumas. Outside of the Lab, Bruno enjoys outdoors activities such as running, cycling, and discovering Vancouver Island. Bruno is a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and a big fan of Mixed Martial Arts and football (soccer).
